La parroquia María, Madre de Dios, organizará su tradicional venta de repostería de Mardi Gras el domingo 15 de febrero para recaudar fondos destinados a la música y el entretenimiento del Festival Sabores de Verano de este año. It offers us the opportunity to dispel the darkness of illiteracy through its support for Catholic School scholarships. The darkness of food insecurity thought its support for Outreach programs. The darkness of natural disasters through the humanitarian efforts of Catholic Relief Services. It’s the opportunity to bring the light of Christ to the world.
The parish counts on your generosity to meet our goal of $55,485. When contributions exceed the goal, the parish receives a rebate. Whether you respond to the Annual Catholic Appeal mailing from Cardinal Cupich, return an envelope from the back of church, or make a gift online, thank you for your contribution. On February 2, Catholics celebrate the feast of the Presentation of the Lord which is also called Candlemas. This feast takes place 40 days after the feast of the Nativity. In keeping with Jewish law, Mary and Joseph brought their baby to the temple in Jerusalem for purification and dedication (Exodus 13:1). When Holy Simeon saw the baby Jesus, he said, “For my eyes have seen your salvation which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, a LIGHT for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.” From these words comes the tradition of blessing candles at Mass. Esta fiesta se celebra 40 días después de la Natividad. Siguiendo la ley judía, María y José llevaron al niño Jesús al templo de Jerusalén para su purificación y consagración (Éxodo 13:1).
