Over the last month, our parish Soup Kitchen has received several kind donations of items from its wish lists. Thank you to the generous people who purchased pie serving spoons, cutting boards, sandwich bags, lemonade powder, ranch dressing, bowls, plastic utensils, snack bags of chips, and Tampax packets for our Outreach Ministries!
Eighth graders from St. Francis Xavier School began their volunteering at our parish food pantry (housed at St. Thomas of Canterbury church - 4827 N. Kenmore). There will be six different students from the school volunteering every Monday. We're are happy to continue the long-standing partnership with Saints Joseph & Francis Xavier Parish!
"Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers or sisters of mine, you did for me." -Matthew 25:40 ![]() As you all know, many people find refuge on the steps of our three churches. In response, a group of parish volunteers has come together to better serve our neighbors in need. Most folks on the street are just looking for kindness and direction. This group will be the parish's first response (rather than calling 911) when someone is making a home on parish property or disrupting parish activities. Our hope is to get to know our neighbors in need and see how we can connect them to community resources. Help us grow this new ministry! If you or someone you know, are curious about our group, please join us for the next meeting on Sunday, September 15 at 10:30 AM in the Parish Center (5545 N. Paulina - next to St. Gregory the Great church). If you have any questions, you can email our group secretary Stephanie Held.
Anyone in our parish trained as a Eucharistic Minister, or interested in this ministry, is invited to learn more about our parish’s plans to incorporate both the bread and wine (both species) during communion at Sunday Masses.
Join us at the upcoming coffee socials to receive an update!
If you have any questions, you can email Jenéne Francis. Parish ministries – St. Gregory's Hall and Canterbury House – hosted the first ever conference exploring the life, writing, and sources of Catholic social thinker Peter Maurin. Attendees considered the vision of Peter Maurin, co-founder of the Catholic Worker movement. He promoted philosophical personalism and economic distributism and a program of renewal based on Catholic Social Tradition. (Photos courtesy of parish volunteer Damian Chlanda.)
