All Souls' Day Shrines 2025

11/3/2025

Our Church sets aside the month of November for us to remember and to pray for our beloved dead – especially those who have passed away within the last year and for all those in Purgatory awaiting the fullness of Heavenly Glory. At each of our churches, we have shrines to the faithful departed celebrating their lives and honoring their memories.

National Vocation Awareness Week 2025

11/2/2025

Picture
Today starts the beginning of National Vocation Awareness Week (November 2-8, 2025)! This annual celebration is dedicated to promoting vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life through prayer and education. The whole Church is asked to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations.

Have you or someone you know felt the Lord calling you to a life of service, simplicity, fraternity, and joyfulness? The Conventual Franciscan friars are happy to meet and journey with Catholic men who are considering God's unfolding plan for them. The friars will encourage and guide the process of prayerful discernment.

The first step? Let's start a conversation. The friars are happy to answer any questions you might have about the community and their lives. To learn more about or schedule a visit, email Vocation Director Br. Bernard Mary.

Living Treasure of Edgewater: Gloria Gahagan

11/1/2025

“My philosophy is very simple. It’s three words, faith, family, and friends.”
We are so proud of our long-time parishioner, Gloria Gahagan, who was inducted into the Edgewater Historical Society's "Living Treasures of Edgewater" program. Gloria has lived almost her entire life in the Edgewater neighborhood and has spent countless hours volunteering for projects to aid others. This includes at Mary, Mother of God Parish (formerly St. Ita Parish) where she ran the Grief Support group for many years.

Gloria said her family's motto was that,
“Nothing is good unless shared" and we are grateful to her for sharing her many blessings with our parish!

"Edgewater Living Treasures are residents of Edgewater who have made a difference, some in a profound, fundamental way, and others in a small but significant action that has affected the well being of the Edgewater community. Their deeds were not driven by personal gain, but to help the people of the community – whether generating beauty, fostering harmony, helping the less fortunate or encouraging grass roots activity.

Honorees have been selected from nominations from the community. They have generously served and inspired others by initiating educational and social programs for the needy, pushing for green spaces and access to the lakefront, promoting local business districts and supporting the arts. [...] We honor them as people who took the initiative to make Edgewater the unique community it is today." -Edgewater Historical Society
Learn about the Living Treasures, including Gloria, by clicking here. “Edgewater Living Treasures” is an ongoing program and nomination forms for 2026 awards may be submitted online before January 15, 2026.

"God, thank you for the example of the Saints. We desire to join in their company, worshiping you forever in Heaven. Please help us follow their footsteps, and yours, Jesus Christ. Please help us to conform ourselves to Your image, seeking Your will in all things, as the Saints did. Please help us to devote ourselves, and all that I do, to Your glory, and to the service of my neighbors. Amen." (Source)
