End of Year Giving 2025

12/31/2025

Picture
As you plan your end-of-year charitable giving, look no further than Mary, Mother of God, your parish. There are so many ways to show that you care.
  • Care for our churches and other worship spaces with a gift to the renovation and repair fund.
  • Care for people suffering from food insecurity with a gift to the Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen.
  • Care for those who have nowhere else to turn with a gift to St. Anthony’s Bread, a Franciscan tradition, or Helping Hands, a social care fund established years ago at St. Gregory’s.

Thank you for your support of our parish!

Simbang Gabi 2025

12/20/2025

We continued our preparations for Christmas with the Filipino Advent tradition of Simbang Gabi! Filipino immigrants have proudly introduced this beautiful tradition to the Church in the United States, and it has become a much-anticipated annual celebration at our parish.

We hosted Simbang Gabi Mass on Saturday, December 20 at St. Gregory the Great church followed by joyful reception full of food and fun! At the reception, the Filipino Committee President Armi Jasmin gave our pastor Fr. Alejandro Lopez a donation check for the parish. We are very grateful to the Filipino Community for fundraised all year on behalf of Mary, Mother of God Parish.

Thank you to everyone who coordinated our parish celebration of Las Posadas on December 19. It was a wonderful night full of prayer, fun, and good food! We are happy to continue this wonderful Advent tradition which is brought to us by our Sisters and Brothers from the Catholic Church in Mexico.

Novena de Aguinaldos (2025)

12/15/2025

The traditional Advent novena or also called novena de aguinaldos is celebration of the Church in Colombia. It begins on December 13 and ends on December 21 commemorating the birth of the baby Jesus in the manger. Our parish hosted one night of the novena on Monday, December 15 at 7 PM at St. Ita church. We would like to wish a warm welcome and heartfelt congratulations to the newest members of our Secular Franciscans! 🎉 On Sunday, December 14, our parish held a special Mass and profession ceremony for five new members of the fraternity. After several years of discernment and formation, these individuals have permanently committed themselves to the gospel way of life as exemplified by St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi.

Congratulations to…Julienne Amovin, Betsy Covell, Staci Davidson, Marcel Pacatte, and Katarzyna Sitek! 🥳

Who are the Secular Franciscans?
The Secular Franciscans is a fraternity of lay people who desire to follow Christ in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi. Also known as Third Order Seculars, the group was established by St. Francis more than 800 years ago. Their purpose is to bring the Gospel to life where they live and where they work. They look for ways to embrace the Gospel in their lives and try to help others to do likewise.

The Secular Franciscans at our parish meet on the second Sunday of every month in the basement of the Monsignor Klasen Memorial Gym (1609 W. Gregory) 2 PM to 4 PM. Inquirers and guests are always welcome. Learn more by clicking here.
