Today is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe which commemorates when the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Juan Diego on the hill of Tepeyac in Mexico. The Story: In 1531, an indigenous peasant, Juan Diego, saw a glowing figure on the hill. It was Our Lady of Guadalupe and she asked Juan Diego to build her a shrine, so she could share her love and compassion with all those who believe. Afterwards, Juan Diego visited the Archbishop of Mexico City who dismissed Juan in disbelief and asked for proof of the story. Juan Diego returned to the hill and encountered Our Lady again. The Virgin told him to climb to the top of the hill and pick some flowers to present to the Archbishop. Although it was winter and nothing should have been in bloom, he found an abundance of flowers. The Virgin bundled the flowers into his, known as a tilma. Juan Diego presented the tilma of exotic flowers to the Archbishop. What was even more significant, however, was that the tilma had been miraculously imprinted with a colorful image of the Virgin herself. Last week we celebrated the Solemnity (special feast) of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Enjoy photos from our parish Mass. *Photos courtesy of parish volunteer Luana Lienhart, OFS.
Enjoy photos from the ‘Canticle of the Creatures’ themed Advent Retreat! We had a wonderful turnout for this year’s Advent Retreat. Fr. Alejandro lead a group of about 45 people (between both the morning and afternoon session) for a half day of reflection to begin the season. The theme was the Canticle of the Creatures which was written by St. Francis of Assisi 800 years ago and continues to offer much fruit for the faithful today. *Photos courtesy of parishioner Silvia Téllez, OFS

All commission heads have until the end of January to finalize who will sit on their commissions, with an eye toward making sure that each worship site is represented on each commission. The executive committee is also planning to send around a parish wide survey to get a firmer sense of parish demographics and to see what ministries and services are most needed by the parish. The executive committee will spend a Saturday in February on retreat to discern the best way to serve the parish in alignment with the pastor’s vision for Mary, Mother of God. |
