On Sunday, December 1, Bishop Fifremariam Hagos Tsalim offered Mass at St. Thomas of Canterbury for the Eritrean community. He was greeted at the doors of the church with drums, song, flowers, popcorn (a symbol of good fortune) and joy. An Umbrelino was held over his head as he entered the worship space. Our pastor, Fr. Alejandro Lopez, OFM Conv., was present along with two Capuchin friars, Tetwigs Rweyemamu and Birhame Micahel. After the Mass, all celebrated a communal meal of Eritrean dishes and music.
