La historia:
En 1531, un campesino indígena, Juan Diego, vio una figura resplandeciente en el cerro. Era Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, quien le pidió que construyera un santuario para poder compartir su amor y compasión con todos los creyentes.

Posteriormente, Juan Diego visitó al Arzobispo de la Ciudad de México, quien, incrédulo, desestimó su relato y le pidió pruebas. Juan Diego regresó al cerro y se encontró de nuevo con la Virgen. Ella le indicó que subiera a la cima y recogiera algunas flores para presentárselas al Arzobispo. Aunque era invierno y no debería haber flores, encontró una gran cantidad. La Virgen las recogió en su tilma (manto). Juan Diego le presentó la tilma con las flores exóticas al Arzobispo. Sin embargo, lo más significativo fue que la tilma estaba milagrosamente impresa con una colorida imagen de la Virgen.

The Story:
In 1531, an indigenous peasant, Juan Diego, saw a glowing figure on the hill. It was Our Lady of Guadalupe and she asked Juan Diego to build her a shrine, so she could share her love and compassion with all those who believe.

Afterwards, Juan Diego visited the Archbishop of Mexico City who dismissed Juan in disbelief and asked for proof of the story. Juan Diego returned to the hill and encountered Our Lady again. The Virgin told him to climb to the top of the hill and pick some flowers to present to the Archbishop. Although it was winter and nothing should have been in bloom, he found an abundance of flowers. The Virgin bundled the flowers into his, known as a tilma. Juan Diego presented the tilma of exotic flowers to the Archbishop. What was even more significant, however, was that the tilma had been miraculously imprinted with a colorful image of the Virgin herself.
