Introducing Fr. Peter Otieno Onyango, OFM Conv.

Meet the newest face around our parish and member of the local Conventual Franciscan community, Fr. Peter Otieno Onyango, OFM Conv. Fr. Peter comes to us from Kenya by way of Detroit. Get to know him a little bit better and see what work he’ll be doing around the parish during his short time with us! 

What drew you to the Franciscans?
The poverty and simplicity expressed in the life of St. Francis plus the friars who had begun serving at my home parish.

Where were you before coming to Mary, Mother of God Parish?
I served in Kenya as an assistant to a parish priest (in Meru Diocese), and in the United States I have been providing assistance at St. Linus and St. Anselm parishes in Michigan.

What will you be doing here at the parish?
I will be assisting the pastor while Fr. Thomas is away by saying Masses until next month (March 19th).

What are some of the things you enjoy in your spare time?
Reading and learning how to play the guitar.​

Conoce a una cara nueva en nuestra parroquia y miembro de la comunidad franciscana conventual local, el P. Peter Otieno Onyango, OFM Conv. P. Peter viene a nosotros de Kenia a través de Detroit. Conózcalo un poco mejor y vea qué trabajo él estará haciendo alrededor de la parroquia.

¿Qué te atrajo de los franciscanos?
La pobreza y la sencillez expresadas en la vida de San Francisco, además de los frailes que habían empezado a servir en mi parroquia natal.

¿Dónde estaba usted antes de venir a María, Madre de Dios Parroquia?
Serví en Kenia como asistente de un párroco (en la Diócesis de Meru), y en los Estados Unidos he estado dando asistencia en las parroquias de San Linus y San Anselmo en Michigan.

¿Qué hará aquí en la parroquia?
Ayudaré al párroco durante la ausencia del P. Thomás, celebrando Misas hasta el mes que viene (19 de marzo).

¿Qué le gusta hacer en su tiempo libre?
Leer y aprender a tocar la guitarra.

Điều gì đã dẫn Cha đến với dòng Phanxicô?
Chính là sự khó nghèo và giản dị được thể hiện trong cuộc đời của Thánh Phanxicô cũng như các anh em tu sĩ trong Dòng khi khởi sự phục vụ tại giáo xứ quê hương tôi.

Cha đã ở đâu trước khi đến với Giáo xứ Đức Maria Mẹ Thiên Chúa?
Tôi đã phục vụ ở Kenya với tư cách là phụ tá cho một linh mục chính xứ (ở Giáo phận Meru), và ở Hoa Kỳ thì  tôi cũng là phó xứ  tại các giáo xứ St. Linus và St. Anselm ở Michigan.

Xin Cha nói nhiệm vụ của Cha ở Giáo xứ chúng con?
Tôi sẽ làm công tác phụng vụ trong khi Cha Thomas vắng mặt và  sẽ cử hành Thánh lễ cho đến tháng sau (19 tháng 3).

Trong thời gian rảnh rỗi, Cha thích làm gì?
Tôi thích đọc sách và học cách chơi đàn.guitar.
