It is an amazing experience! Mark your calendar! The great Chili Cook-off is Saturday, October 12th after the 5:30PM Mass at Saint Ita church (5500 N. Broadway)!.
Mary, Mother of God Parishioner, Melissa Primavera, is singing in partnership with The Lahr von Leïtis Academy & Archive in a program titled Healing a Fractured World: A portrait of exiled composer Egon Lustgarten. Egon Lustgarten (1887-1961), an Austrian composer of Jewish descent, was forced to emigrate to the United States after Hitler’s annexation of Austria. Healing a Fractured World chronicles Lustgarten’s journey of resolve to continue creating his music in the face of impossibly difficult circumstances. This unique experience brings the composer’s story to life through a brief lecture, performance of his rarely heard musical works, narrated personal correspondence and images. The Chicago premiere takes place on October 9, 2024 at 7 PM at PianoForte studios. Admission is free but reservations are required as seating is limited. "The Militia of the Immaculata (MI) is a worldwide evangelization movement founded by St. Maximilian Kolbe in 1917 that encourages total consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary as a means of spiritual renewal for individuals and society. The MI movement is open to all Catholics over 7 years old. It employs prayer as the main tool in the spiritual battle with evil. Members of the MI also immerse themselves in apostolic initiatives throughout society, either individually or in groups, to deepen the knowledge of the Gospel and our Catholic Faith and to spread devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary." Mary, Mother of God Parish has a chapter of the Militia of the Immaculata that meets for prayer and putting their consecration to Mary into action. Meetings begin with renewing the consecration prayer, followed by a decade of the Rosary. There is also a reading and discussion from the writings of St. Maximilian Kolbe.
Meetings are every first Saturday of the month at 10 AM in the Saint Ita rectory (1220 W. Catalpa). If you are interested in becoming a member of the MI, please email Staci Davidson, the group's secretary.
