On Saturday, September 30 the Filipino community hosted a reception to honor the Feast of San Lorenzo Ruiz after 4:30 PM vigil at St. Gregory the Great. There was a choral and musical accompaniment during the Mass and attendees were invited to take a blessed medal of San Lorenzo. Afterwards, there was a full reception in the courtyard with wonderful Filipino food, pizza, and ice-cream! Who is San Lorenzo? September 28 is the Feast of San Lorenzo Ruiz and Companion Martyrs. San Lorenzo was the first canonized Filipino and he along with five others were tortured and executed for the faith in Japan. Their sacrifice is celebrated at shrines at two of our parish churches -- St. Thomas of Canterbury and St. Gregory the Great. Photos courtesy: Carmela Dumas & Stephanie Held
